Just wanted to add my positive 2 cents and share a tip or two that I found crucial to a relatively stress free campaign so far. Besides, they're all half starving and being ravaged by barbarians, their jealousy is kind of understandable. I do find the 'great power' diplomatic penalty pretty limiting - but it also gives a good indicator as to future issues which a bit of pre-emptive attack sorts out nicely. The Huns love me, as do my allies the Jutes, but everyone else despises me - I'm guessing this is because with the exception of my initial British invasion I spent no time attacking the Romans. So after abandoning the starting capital and migrating to Britain, at around 422 AD I've just successfully re taken Germany / Belgium / Netherlands and am starting to dominate.
